Our Client Centura Tile needed to develop a new and updated dynamic corporate head office, showroom and warehouse for the Toronto market as well as servicing as a core for all of their 18 facilities across Canada containing offices, showrooms and warehousing.
Their original offices showroom and warehousing were on 53 Apex Road, one block north of Lawrence Avenue. The purchase of the Swiss Chalet building including a wholesale warehouse and medical unit allowed our firm to join the two buildings and create a new facility with the main entrance on Lawrence Avenue, increasing the overall size of the building to 160,000 square feet. This included the new and expanded corporate offices, state of the art showroom, display units, order desk, tool facility, drive thorough, lunch rooms, living green wall with LEED accredited materials being used.
New products were included throughout the building taking the tile industry into a new era. Exterior wall materials were developed and used to maximize the uses of the material engineering systems and panelization that allow walls to be developed with the exterior 1 metre x 3 metre panels that are only 3mm thick. This saves a tremendous amount of weight handling costs, freight and deliveries. The existing building was stripped down to the bare walls and the mezzanines were removed and raised to allow the new corporate offices on the ground floor and the sales area, exercise gym and washrooms on the second floor.The new corporate offices have a commanding presence on the street, the urban landscape and the urban development.
